Local partners have worked together to bring a Wiltshire College and University Centre presence back to Westbury for the first time in more than a decade, providing high quality learning opportunities on a range of subjects.

Westbury Community Project has worked with Wiltshire Council's Engagement and Partnerships team, and Westbury Area Board, to secure a Wiltshire College and University Centre presence in the town.

The college are now offering a number of lessons on Monday to Friday afternoons, covering subjects such as basic maths, employability, customer services and digital skills. Lessons will take place at the Westbury Community Project building on Eden Vale Road, BA13 3NY.

Cllr Ashley O'Neill, Wilshire Council Cabinet Member for Communities, said: At Wiltshire Council we have a key role to play in helping coordinate local resources and to work with partners to the benefit the local community. We want to see vibrant well-connected communities in the county and we're pleased to have played our part in a project that will have such a positive impact on the future of local people in Westbury.

Cllr Matthew Dean, Chair of Westbury Area Board, said: We are delighted to have worked with Wiltshire College and University Centre and Westbury Community Project to help facilitate this project to such a positive outcome, which will see top quality lessons and valuable skills taught in the town. Education provides real opportunities for people to build towards a brighter future and we're looking forward to seeing the local community thrive as a result.

Richard Hatt, Chair of Trustees at Westbury Community Project, said: In 2017 when the community came together to forge the vision the Westbury Community Project we did include the element of adult education being on offer for Westbury.

On behalf of the trustees we are so grateful that Wiltshire College and University Centre and  Wiltshire Council are prepared to invest in the dream of bringing the wonderful learning opportunities to our town. WCP listened carefully to the priorities of the community and with the Town Council and Area Board whole hearted support the dream is coming to fruition!

My hope is that the good people of Westbury take up the offer and flood Wiltshire College and University Centre with requests for places. Kevin Down the WCP manager will welcome one and all with open arms. Let's make this work Westbury!

Vice Principal Curriculum and Business Development at Wiltshire College and University Centre, Jennifer Mellows, said, I am delighted that the college is working in partnership with Westbury Community Project by providing essential training that could lead individuals to local employment opportunities or progress onto further learning programmes.

Lisa Cuffy, Adult Community Learning and Commercial Enterprise Manager at Wiltshire College and University Centre. said  I'm thrilled to be working back in the community and I believe the working partnership will help to encourage more of the community in developing the confidence to access learning again.
