Wiltshire Council's Springfield Community Campus is taking precautionary measures after two members of Leisure Services staff tested positive for COVID-19.

All preventative measures have been followed, and the campus has, with the advice of Wiltshire Council's Public Health Team, asked 13 members of staff identified as close contacts to self-isolate for 14 days in line with government guidance.  The self-isolation of the staff members is precautionary to minimise the risk of onward transmission of the virus.

Springfield Community Campus has worked with the Wiltshire Council Public Health Team to ensure high standards of hygiene and social distancing are maintained and all the necessary measures are in place to allow the site to remain open for members of the public to use safely.  From tomorrow, Monday 26 October, the gym and class programme will be run as normal.  However, due to limited lifeguard availability, the pool will be closed temporarily.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Libraries, said "The safety of Springfield Community Campus and those that use it, is of the utmost importance.  Our Leisure Services staff are working closely with Wiltshire Council's Public Health Team, who advise that the site can remain open and customers can feel confident to visit.  We are contacting customers who are booked to use the pool over the next few days to inform them of the situation. We appreciate this will inconvenience people but are grateful for their understanding during these unprecedented times. We will continue to keep customers updated throughout."

Kate Blackburn, Director of Public Health, Wiltshire Council, said: "Two employees at Springfield Community Campus have now tested positive for COVID-19. The campus has followed all the correct procedures. We have been working closely with colleagues from Leisure Services to ensure good control measures have been implemented.

"The cases have been managed appropriately and any contacts identified are now self-isolating for 14 days in line with government guidance.

"We would like to reassure people using Springfield Community Campus that robust mechanisms have been in place to contain the infection and the campus can remain open to the public to use safely."
