Recruitment drive to encourage qualified social workers to return

Qualified Social Workers who have taken a break from their career are being encouraged to consider returning to social work and continue to make a difference to adults and children's lives.

Taking a career break, having a family or working in a different field are all reasons why some qualified social workers move away from the profession. This latest recruitment drive aims to help qualified Social Workers to return to work at Wiltshire Council.

Qualified Social Workers who are thinking about returning to adult or children's social care in Wiltshire are invited to a drop-in recruitment event at Bournemouth University, on Friday 10 January 2020 (9am 5pm).

Hosted by the Pan-Dorset and Wiltshire Social Work Teaching Partnership, the drop-in event will offer people the opportunity to re-register as a social worker, receive advice and guidance and hear from professionals in the field. Representatives from Wiltshire Council, BCP Council and Dorset Council as well as Bournemouth University and other key partners will be on hand throughout the day to provide advice and information.

Cllr Pauline Church, Cabinet member for Children, Education and Skills said:

We know there will be many qualified social workers who may have taken a break or left the profession. We don't want to lose that expertise and we encourage people who are thinking about returning, to speak to us and find out how we can help them to regain the confidence, skills and knowledge to come back and support us to deliver these vital services for adults and children.

Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care said:

This event will be an excellent opportunity to speak to people in the profession and find out more about the avenues to come back into social work. We provide a range of support and career choices for our social workers and for those wanting to learn more I'd encourage them to attend the event or contact us to find out more about the opportunities available.
