Local people are invited to come along to a series of public events taking place across Salisbury city centre in the coming weeks, to learn more about two of the transformational projects being supported by the government's Future High Streets Fund.
These events are part of a six-week public consultation to gather feedback on:
- Salisbury Station Forecourt - redesigning the station forecourt making it more attractive and accessible for visitors and residents
- Fisherton Gateway - improvements to the road network and public spaces along South Western Road and Fisherton Street
Two public exhibitions are being held at the Guildhall, so local people have an opportunity to discuss the proposals with members of the team and ask any questions they may have. These exhibitions are taking place on:
- Wednesday 30 March from 2.30pm to 6.30pm
- Thursday 7 April from 2.30pm to 6.30pm
Several pop-up events are also taking place across Salisbury:
- Monday 28 March from 10am to 12pm at Salisbury Library
- Monday 4 April from 3pm to 6pm at Salisbury Railway Station (platform 4)
- Wednesday 6 April from 3pm to 6.30pm at Five Rivers Health & Wellbeing Centre
A live public webinar is being held on Monday 21 March at 6pm which will be broadcast via Microsoft Teams. There will be a short presentation followed by a live Q&A session. A recording of the webinar will also be available on YouTube: Public webinar on the Future High Streets Funded schemes in Salisbury - 21 March 2022 (opens new window).
Finally, flyers will be handed out at the Salisbury Market on Tuesday 5 April from 10am to 1pm.
Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: Since launching the consultation a week ago many people will have read the consultation material and will have questions about the proposals. These public events, including a live public webinar, present a great opportunity for these questions to be answered by the project team.
These projects celebrate Salisbury. A more welcoming and attractive Station Forecourt will ensure visitors and residents have a greater sense of arrival and anticipation of all that Salisbury can offer. Then as they stroll down a more pleasant Fisherton Street they are enticed by the unique local and original independent shops and restaurants Salisbury is known for. Through these improved experiences we hope people spend more time in the city and support the wide range of shops, cafés and bars only found in this modern medieval city.
The consultation closes at 5pm on Tuesday 19 April 2022. All feedback gathered will be used to develop the detailed designs for these two schemes.
