Wiltshire communities still have time to plan events to celebrate the Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort

There is just over three weeks to go before the Coronation of King Charles III and Wiltshire's communities still have time to plan events to mark and celebrate this historic occasion.

Communities can sign up to host an event as part of The Coronation Big Lunch, a chance for friends, family and neighbours to get together over food and commemorate the occasion. Whether it's a small garden gathering or a full-blown street party or fĂȘte, communities are being encouraged to list their celebratory events on the Big Lunch map to help locals find events near them. To view local events or sign up to host an event for The Big Lunch and receive a free event pack, people can visit: Eden project communities.com- Coronation Big Lunch (opens new window)

The Big Help Out launches on Monday 8 May and gives people the opportunity to help out in local communities to make a positive change. From checking in on someone who'd like a bit of company or volunteering for a charity, people that can spare an hour, a day or even more are being encouraged to sign up to lend a hand and help out. More information and opportunities to volunteer for The Big Help Out can be found at: Coronation - The Big Help Out (opens new window)

There are also national events being screened over the weekend that people can view, including the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle on Sunday 7 May.

Wiltshire Council has shared an update on its services over the extended Bank Holiday weekend:

  • Saturday 6 May and Sunday 7 May: Council services will be open and operate as normal, with no changes to the opening times of leisure centres and Household Recycling Centres. Libraries that are normally open on a Saturday will be unaffected except for the two volunteer-led libraries at Lyneham and Market Lavington that will be closed.
  • Monday 8 May: The council's leisure centres, libraries and main hubs will be closed. Bin collections will take place as normal with no changes.
  • From Tuesday 9 May: All council services will be back to normal.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Mrs Sarah Troughton, said: I am very much looking forward to attending the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort and it promises to be a special and unifying occasion. I would like to thank all Wiltshire's residents and communities for getting involved in the Big Lunch and the Big Help Out, and coming together to arrange so many events across the county to celebrate this momentous and historic weekend.

Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: It has been fantastic to see such great community spirit shown across Wiltshire in the preparations to celebrate the Coronation. We've been very pleased to help facilitate arrangements for people to ensure the events can run as smoothly and safely as possible.
