A resident from Swindon has been issued with a £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) for fly-tipping domestic waste.

A cardboard box containing waste was found on a grass verge between Royal Wootton Bassett and Hook. As part of the investigation carried out by Wiltshire Council's Environmental Enforcement Officers, evidence obtained led to the individual being interviewed under caution.

The resident claimed that they pulled into a side road between Royal Wootton Bassett and Hook to tidy the inside of their car. They placed the cardboard box of rubbish onto the ground and failed to put it back into the car before driving away.

The resident cannot be named as they admitted to the offence which meant they received a fixed penalty notice and were not convicted in court.

Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, Street Scene and Flooding, said: We have a zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping in Wiltshire and our message is that if you fly-tip you will be caught and prosecuted.

This is the fourth fixed penalty notice we have issued at the new rate of £1,000 and we hope this increase shows people how serious we are about fly-tipping.

If anyone spots fly-tipping in the county, I'd urge them to report it to us using MyWilts. They could receive a reward of up to £200 in gift vouchers if the information they provide leads to a prosecution or a fixed penalty being paid.
