Temporary road closure for refurbishment of historic Trowbridge Town Hall
Park Road will be temporarily closed at its junction with Market Street to facilitate the refurbishment of the historic Town Hall located in the centre of Trowbridge.
The planned works include removing scaffolding, carrying out masonry repairs to the Park Road elevation and installing a new electricity supply.
The road closure will be in effect each weekday from 9am to 4pm, starting Monday 3 June through to Friday 5 July 2024.
During this period, pedestrian and emergency services access will be maintained but no other vehicular access will be permitted. Waste collection services will not be affected by this road closure.
Residents of Park Road flats will be provided with permits to use the Court Street car park, as access to the residents' car park on Park Road, will be unavailable.
Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: We are pleased with the progress being made and the attention to detail to protect the building's historic features during the works. We would like to thank all stakeholders, especially the residents living in the Park Road flats for their patience and continued support. We are working hard to minimise disruption and ensure everyone's safety. We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause.
This refurbishment is crucial for our community as it aligns with our goal of fostering resilient towns where communities can sustainably grow and access leisure, arts, heritage and culture. Once the works are complete, Trowbridge Town Hall Trust will be granted a 125-year lease to secure the long-term future of this cherished cultural and community asset.
The refurbishment of the Town Hall forms part of the £16 million investment in Trowbridge town centre via the government's Future High Streets Fund.
