The Next Chapter. Art exhibition spotlights the resilience and voices of domestic abuse survivors

An inspiring art exhibition called 'The Next Chapter' will open to the public on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 March in Trowbridge County Hall - in honour of International Women's Day (8 March). The display will showcase the artistic talent and resilience of people who have courageously escaped domestic abuse.

Wiltshire Council has created this event alongside FearFree, GreenSquareAccord, Julian House, The Nelson Trust and Collaborate Digital, to highlight the power of art in telling untold stories of hope and empowerment.

Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with an interactive experience, where they can use their smartphones and headphones to listen to the stories behind the artwork. The exhibitions opening day will also feature a special performance from Cantiamo Female Voice Choir at 1pm, singing a selection of powerful songs.

The exhibition will showcase a mixture of artworks including paintings, drawings, and poems, produced by people accessing domestic abuse support in Wiltshire, including one-to-one support and groupwork in both community services and in domestic abuse safe accommodation. Art and creative expression are invaluable tools for therapy and recovery and can play an important role in supporting survivors to reach the 'next chapter' in their lives.  

The exhibition will also feature a collection of imaginative podcasts, produced by students from Wiltshire schools during creative healthy relationship workshops run by Collaborate Digital.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Public Health, said: The Next Chapter is not just an art exhibition, but a celebration of survival and strength and we're pleased we could help people share their stories with the public to raise awareness of domestic abuse. Through these pieces of artwork and the voices of the people behind them, we hope to create a platform for healing and inspire others who may be experiencing similar challenges.

The Next Chapter not only showcases their talent but also tells their stories, reminding us all of the importance of support and empowerment.

The free exhibition will be held at the Atrium at County Hall, Bythesea Rd Trowbridge BA14 8JN on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 March between 10am - 4pm.
