Wiltshire Council will be starting work to refurbish the pedestrian crossing on the A346 Herd Street in Marlborough from Monday 17 February.
The work will take approximately two weeks to complete and includes upgrading the crossing near the junction with St Martins to puffin technology, the installation of an additional traffic signal post to enhance visibility of the crossing, and the replacement of the paving to improve the pedestrian facilities.
BT Openreach will be closing the road from Saturday 15 to Friday 21 February under a 24-hour closure to carry out work to install infrastructure, during which time the council will also begin upgrading the crossing, which will need a full road closure to ensure the safety of the teams working on the site and the completion of both sets of works.
During the week commencing Monday 24 February, the road will be under temporary multi-way traffic signals and a temporary pedestrian crossing will be in place between 9.30am and 2.30pm.
Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: It's crucial that we upgrade and refurbish pedestrian crossings as they're a key part of our highways infrastructure, helping to keep all road users safe.
We have a comprehensive traffic signal refurbishment programme in place to help us monitor when traffic signals hit the end of their design life and the crossing on Herd Street meets this criteria.
We're taking advantage of the road closure by coordinating these works and scheduling them during half-term to reduce disruption. However, we do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
