Essential gas network upgrades in Wilton

Gas company SGN will shortly start safety-critical network upgrades in the A30 West Street area of Wilton in Salisbury.

Published 23 April 2020

In line with the latest government advice regarding the coronavirus pandemic, SGN is only carrying out safety-critical and emergency work to keep its communities and employees safe and warm. This work needs to go ahead now, rather than wait until the pandemic passes, to ensure local properties continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.

The company will be carrying out safety-critical and essential gas mains upgrades in West Street, South Street and Silver Street near the junction they meet, from Monday 27 April for approximately 13 weeks. Engineers will be replacing old metal gas mains with new durable plastic pipe.

The company will need to temporarily close the A30 West Street, at its junction with North Street, in the early stages of the project to ensure everyone's safety. This will be followed by temporary road closures in South and Silver Street at the same junction. The roads won't be closed at the same time and signed diversion routes will be in place for affected motorists. Access for businesses and residents will be maintained wherever possible.

Bus services may also be affected, so please visit Salisbury Reds website (opens new window) to check for any updates.
