Wiltshire Council will be refurbishing a 'Toucan' pedestrian and cyclist shared crossing on the A3102 Silver Street in Calne in September.
From 23 September, temporary two-way traffic signals and a temporary signal-controlled pedestrian and cyclist crossing will be in place for approximately three weeks, to enable the work to take place.
The crossing infrastructure at this location is nearing the end of its designed lifespan so this work will help to ensure the crossing technology continues to function correctly. Roadside vegetation clearance will also be carried out during the works so that the new signal and crossing infrastructure can be installed. This will increase visibility for motorists and pedestrians. The railings leading up to the crossing will also be replaced and bollards installed to increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "We have an extensive stock of traffic signals across our highways network, and it is important we undertake regular refurbishments when assets are nearing the end of their designed lifespan to ensure they continue to work correctly. It is also an opportunity to upgrade the technology used to increase efficiency.
"Works of this nature inevitably result in some disruption. However, we have designed these works to minimise disruption, with temporary two-way signals in place so that the road can remain open. We would like to thank people in advance for their patience while we carry out these essential works, which we aim to complete in a timely manner."
The A3102 Silver Street, Calne, pedestrian and cyclist crossing links the nearby residential estates of Fynamore Gardens and Hazel Grove.
A Toucan crossing is a crossing with suitable infrastructure and markings for it to be shared by pedestrians and cyclists.
