Wiltshire Council's investment in leisure continues with Springfield Campus next in line

The fitness suite at Springfield Campus in Corsham is next in line for refurbishment, as Wiltshire Council reaffirms its commitment to invest in its leisure centres

The fitness suite at Springfield Campus in Corsham is next in line for refurbishment, as Wiltshire Council reaffirms its commitment to invest in its leisure centres.

Earlier this month, the council announced more on its plan to carry out refurbishment projects at Marlborough Leisure Centre and Warminster Sports Centre. Next month will also see Springfield Campus subject to a complete gym refurbishment to include full fitness equipment replacements, plus redecoration and the installation of replacement flooring.

The work will require the gym to be closed to users for the duration and is scheduled to take approximately four weeks to complete, with work starting on Monday 11 November. The rest of the centre will continue to operate as normal, with the intention to keep disruption to other centre users to a minimum.

Similar improvement projects have already been completed successfully at Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury, Olympiad in Chippenham, Lime Kiln Leisure Centre in Royal Wootton Bassett and Devizes Leisure Centre.

All leisure memberships enable the holder to access all 20 council operated sites, meaning users can access alternative gym facilities at nearby centres such as Olympiad in Chippenham, Calne Community Campus and Melksham Campus whilst Springfield Campus is unavailable.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: "We have been investing significantly in our fitness facilities across the county, and our users are already benefiting and enjoying their new and enhanced facilities. We're delighted that Springfield Campus will be the next to benefit from these continued improvements.

"We know that keeping physically, socially and mentally active has a direct impact on brain function, weight management and reducing disease, that's why we decided that reviewing our leisure centres and making sure that they are well maintained, and fit-for-purpose would be a key priority in our Business Plan.

"Whilst the gym closure may cause some disruption and inconvenience to centre users, gym goers will still be able to use our other nearby sites to have their workout. We hope that the finished result will provide a much more enjoyable experience for our members and visitors."

To compensate centre members for any inconvenience caused during the fitness suite closure, a reduction will be applied to the December direct debit payment.

Wiltshire Council also has plans to carry out improvement works at Marlborough Leisure Centre and Warminster Sports Centre, with start dates to be confirmed soon. Work was recently completed to make improvements at Devizes Leisure Centre, The Olympiad in Chippenham, Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury and Lime Leisure Centre in Royal Wootton Bassett.  A planning application to build a new leisure centre in Trowbridge has also been submitted.
