Wiltshire Council has planned a number of activities and sharing health messages as part of Learning Disability Awareness Week which runs until 23 June.
Wiltshire's day services at The Meadows, The Medley and Riverbank are hosting sport and fun events. The Medley and The Meadows will also be at County Hall in the Atrium on Thursday 20 June, sharing information and ready to answer questions.
The Wiltshire Public Health Team is also using the week to encourage people with learning disabilities to avoid missing out on important appointments such as health screening.
The week coincides with Cervical Screening Awareness Week and there will be easy read materials in the Atrium at County Hall as well as public health teams being available on Thursday 20 June to answer any questions.
Recently Wiltshire worked closely with the Medley Centre, talking about a variety of health topics, including handwashing, measles, oral health, screenings, prostate cancer awareness and mental health support. They have been working alongside GPs and nurses to build confidence and share knowledge with people with learning disabilities and their families to help address any concerns they may have.
Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council said: "Learning Disability Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the issues that are important to people with a learning disability and their families and carers. A number of activities are planned during the week which I'm sure everyone will enjoy.
"This week is also a good opportunity to share messages around health and address any concerns so people with learning disabilities can be confident to attend key appointments."
