Wiltshire Council has congratulated students for their dedication and hard work as secondary schools and colleges open early for results day.

Young people are picking up their A Level and Vocational Technical Qualification (VTQ) results across Wiltshire today as they move onto the next stage of their lives post school education.

Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said: "Congratulations to young people picking up results today. Their years of hard work and commitment are commendable and they should be proud of their  achievements. Recognition should also go to the dedicated and talented staff who have brought alive these subjects and given young people the inspiration and support to achieve. Also the families who have supported their young people through the highs and lows of study."

"If there are students who don't quite have the results they wanted or are unsure of what to do next, there is a whole range of advice out there to help. So don't worry, speak to your school or college, use the support available and you will find the path that's right for you. Good luck to everyone."

Students that do not receive the grades they anticipated should initially speak to their school or college who can offer help and advice about options available to them including the appeals process.

There is a dedicated results day page on the Work Wiltshire website at https://workwiltshire.co.uk/results-day/ with details of the support and advice available. For those thinking about starting an apprenticeship after A Levels, information and registration details can be found https://workwiltshire.co.uk/home/apprenticeships/. Follow Work Wiltshire on their Instagram account @young_workwiltshire to find local opportunities for young people.

The Building Bridges Programme can help people to develop their confidence and skills, access education or take steps towards employment. The free programme (funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund) offers 1:1 support from a friendly development worker to help people to gain employment, or reengage in education, or training.

People who are worried about receiving their exam results or require support following their results can contact the Wiltshire SHOUT service. This is a free, anonymous 24/7 mental health text messaging service which will not appear on your bill. Text WILTS to 85258 to be connected with a trained volunteer who will aim to support you to a calm and safe place.

Help and support is also available from the National Careers service, which can be contacted via social media, webchat or by phone. You can contact the helpline on 0800 100 900 from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturday.
