Work schedule confirmed for Marlborough Leisure Centre refurbishment
Improvements to the fitness suite and pool changing rooms at Marlborough Leisure Centre will get underway inside the centre from 4 November
Improvements to the fitness suite and pool changing rooms at Marlborough Leisure Centre will get underway inside the centre from 4 November.
Over the coming months, works will take place to improve and extend the fitness suite, refurbish and extend the wet changing facilities and to install a changing places facility, with works scheduled for completion in Spring 2025.
Whilst the centre will remain open due the works, customers need to be aware that:
- contractors will be on site from the end of October, setting up the site accommodation in the car park, which will impact on the number of spaces available throughout the duration of the project
- soft play sessions will cease to be available from Saturday 2 November
- a short temporary closure of the swimming pool will be required between 8am to 3.30pm from Wednesday 6 November to Thursday 7 November. This is to facilitate the installation of temporary changing units on poolside. Swimming lessons will continue as normal on these dates.
- after this, the intention is that the swimming pool will remain open for the duration of the works. Swimming lessons will also continue as normal throughout the duration of the works.
- whilst temporary group changing units and toilet facilities will be provided, there will be no shower facilities in the swimming pool area. Customers are encouraged to attend their swimming sessions 'swim ready', similar to the arrangements during the pandemic. Swimming pool changing rooms will be unavailable from Monday 11 November
- The squash court will cease to be available from Sunday 10 November
- the gym will be closed between Monday 18 November to Tuesday 19 November to allow the gym kit to be moved temporarily into the Small Hall for a temporary gym provision.
- the temporary gym offering in the small hall will remain in place for the duration of the fitness suite works
- some fitness classes normally held in the small hall may be affected
- disruption will be minimised as much as possible to all centre users.
Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: "We are working to improve our leisure facilities across Wiltshire, and with similar projects already complete in Chippenham, Royal Wootton Bassett and Salisbury, we are excited for this next scheme at Marlborough Leisure Centre to get started.
"We want to motivate people in Wiltshire to keep physically, socially and mentally active. By extending the fitness suite, adding family and group changing rooms in the wet changing rooms and installing the new changing places facility more people will have the opportunity to visit a more accessible, modern and fit-for purpose centre.
"We know it is a bit inconvenient being asked to arrive 'swim-ready' for sessions, so we also thank the customers in advance for their patience and flexibility with the inevitable disruption whilst the works are taking place. People's patience will be rewarded though with significant improvements made to their centre and a much nicer experience when they come to visit."
Leisure members are being communicated with directly about the arrangements and how this impacts them.
