Young people celebrated at Star Awards ceremony
Young people from across Wiltshire came together for a celebration of their achievements at a special Star Awards ceremony this week.
The event was held at the Civic Centre, Trowbridge and provided an opportunity to celebrate the personal achievements of Wiltshire Council children in care and care experienced young people.
The awards were split into three categories:
- Smashed It! - for those young people who have overcome significant challenges or done something special in their lives.
- Future Pioneers! - for young people who have made progress in their education or are excelling in employment, or for achievements such as sports or hobbies etc.
- Taking Part!- for young people who have done something to help others in their community.
The children were nominated by teachers, personal advisors, social workers or foster carers.
Cllr Peter Hutton, Portfolio Holder for Safeguarding said: This was a truly wonderful event for our young people and everyone attending. It is a special moment to bring so many young people together to celebrate and recognise their amazing achievements often in the face of great challenge and adversity. I was honoured to attend and present awards to many of the young people, and I'm so pleased for everyone nominated.
Natasha Robbins who compèred the event for a second year and who works at Wiltshire Council said: As a care experienced person myself, I love that we take this moment to recognise our young people overcoming challenges every day. I am proud of our young people and I was honoured to host the awards again.
