Register a stillbirth
A stillbirth should be registered at a register office within 42 days.
Call us on 0300 003 4569 to make an appointment at your nearest registration office.
Sometimes a stillbirth can be registered after 42 days - if this is the case we can explain when this can happen.
You can name the baby in the register.
The medical certificate of stillbirth issued by the doctor or midwife needs to have either been sent to us directly by the medical practitioners or brought to the appointment by you.
Who can register the stillbirth
For details of who can register a stillbirth see GOV.UK: Register stillbirth (opens new window) for full details of who can register the stillbirth. The website also provides advice about financial support and support organisations.
