Wiltshire Councillor Helen Belcher has been awarded an honour in the 2023 New Year's Honours list.

Councillor Helen Belcher, Wiltshire Council member for Corsham Pickwick, has been awarded an OBE for services to transgender equality.

Councillor Stuart Wheeler, Chairman of Wiltshire Council, said: On behalf of all at Wiltshire Council, I wish to send my congratulations to Helen on receiving this OBE.

Helen is dedicated and passionate and her drive and determination over the years has made a positive difference to the lives of many people across Wiltshire and beyond. This is truly well-deserved and we're delighted that Cllr Belcher has been honoured in this way.

Councillor Helen Belcher said: Everyone says it's a surprise receiving an honour. Well, it really is. But I'm very aware that, in everything I've done, there's been a team supporting me. I hope they appreciate this honour as well as I'm tremendously grateful for their help.

Congratulating all residents across Wiltshire receiving honours, Mrs Sarah Troughton, Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire, said: I am absolutely delighted to learn that a number of Wiltshire residents have received New Year Honours at all levels and may I congratulate them all. It is always gratifying when people are recognised for the good things they do in every sphere of life. I trust they will wear their medals with pride as often as possible.
