Children attending gymnastics lessons at The Activity Zone in Malmesbury, have been energised by the arrival of new equipment to support and extend their opportunities to develop their skills.

The new equipment including a 12m air sprung track, sprung vault trainer, vault trainer block set and a large coaching block, has been purchased to compliment the current gymnastics offer already in place at the centre.

There are currently 462 young people enrolled on to the council's gymnastics programme across 3 leisure centres (Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury, Lime Kiln Leisure Centre in Royal Wootton Bassett and The Activity Zone in Malmesbury), all of whom follow the British Gymnastics RISE programme (opens new window). Gymnastics School is a weekly programme for young people aged two to 14.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: It's great that we have so many children enrolled in our thriving and popular gymnastics schools across the county, and the purchase of this new equipment will really help them to develop their skills within their weekly sessions.

A key part of our Business Plan is to encourage residents to keep physically active and provide our communities with quality leisure and sports opportunities - investing in this new equipment shows our commitment to our members.

With gymnastics courses, swimming lessons and junior memberships just some of the activities available for children to take part in at leisure centres, we really hope that we are providing a wide programme of activities to enable our children to get involved in a sport in a fun and environment.

Gymnastics is offered as part of a wide range of services and activities for young children and young people across the council's leisure centres, with opportunities to take part in trampolining, climbing, diving, gymnastics, swimming and gym throughout Wiltshire.
