Still time to comment on planning application to restore Trowbridge Town Hall

Local people have until Friday 9 December 2022 to comment on Wiltshire Council's planning application to refurbish and remodel the Grade II listed Town Hall in Trowbridge.

Published 7 December 2022

The plans would see the Town Hall becoming a major creative and community hub for Trowbridge, consisting of custom designed performance and activity spaces, recording studios, and a licenced café bar with refurbished spaces for a wide range of community activities from yoga classes to toddler groups.

The designs for the building were drawn up following various engagement events with the local community and key stakeholders and take into account the budget and constraints of refurbishing a listed building.

Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: "One of our key priorities is ensuring our communities will continue to be able to grow sustainably with good access to leisure, arts, heritage and culture. So, being able to use part of the £16 million investment in Trowbridge town centre via the government's Future High Streets Fund to restore this historic building is very welcomed. We would encourage everyone to take this opportunity of commenting on the plans to give the Town Hall a new lease of life."

Alan Wright, the Director of Trowbridge Town Hall Trust, added: "I have been delighted by the number of people who have dropped into the Town Hall since publication of the refurbishment plans in our community newspaper, Celebrate, and recent public engagement events. I'm even more delighted with the almost universal positive response we have had."

The application which has been submitted to Wiltshire Council, as Local Planning Authority, is available to view and comment on via the Wiltshire Council website at https://development.wiltshire.gov.uk/pr/s/ (opens new window). Enter planning application number PL/2022/08637

The planning application will be determined early in 2023. If the application is approved, work could start at the end of 2023 and be finished around April 2025.
